Fishing Report: October 22nd, 2022

Fall is here and so is some great fishing here in Palm Coast and St. Augustine. with the mullet run happing we have lots of options including redfish, snook, trout, and flounder. Snook can be found busting schools of mullet under mangroves, on the flats, and around docks or bridges. Flounder up very shallow can be seen popping mullet and shrimp, by laying on the bottom until they’re prey swims over top of them. This time of the year as the water starts to cool down we start to see lots of spotted sea trout in the intracoastal and creeks, a free lined shrimp is a sure fire way to catch a hungry trout!

And last but not least, the prized redfish. October is a great month to target redfish in Palm Coast, this time of year cooling water temps trigger our breeding stock of redfish to come in from offshore and spawn at the inlets. Being that these fish are breeders means that typically they around upper slot(27”) or bigger, and put up a great fight! Just keep in mind when fishing for these fish to handle with care, big fish can be very fragile, and again since they are breeding fish they are very important to our estuary! One of my favorite things about this time of year is clean water, cold water equals clean water, and to fly anglers or anglers looking to sight fish redfish clean water is a great sight on the flats. There lots going on in Palm Coast this beautiful time of year so get out on the water!
